South Bend man arraigned in arson case

A South Bend man who was charged with setting his house on fire was arraigned today.

Douglas Wilcox was in court today in St. Joseph County. He is now in the St. Joseph County Jail after being transferred from the Calhoun County Jail in Michigan.

Wilcox was charged with Arson at the end of August.  Wilcox's house on Sandybrook Drive caught fire on August 12.

Though Wilcox was living in the home, he was not the owner.  The owner, Jeffrey Huyvaert, had bought the home in July during a Sheriff's Sale.  Huyvaert was letting Wilcox stay there while renovation were being done on the home.

When crews searched the area they found that Wilcox was not in the home and his car was gone.  The investigation of the fire found that it had been intentionally set.

Police say the found Wilcox in a Battle Creek, MI casino on August 30th, shortly after the warrant was issued.

He will be back in court later this month for his initial hearing.
