An Elkhart teen will be charged as an adult in connection to an animal cruelty case and a robbery from this past June.

16-year-old Marquis Gary is in the Elkhart County Jail on felony charges of robbery with a deadly weapon and cruelty to an animal.

Today, the juvenile court announced the decision to waive Gary to adult court. In a previous hearing, the deputy prosecuting attorney argued that Gary was 'beyond the rehabilitation of the juvenile system.'

Probable cause was found that Gary committed the acts of Robbery While Armed with a Deadly Weapon and Cruelty to an Animal-- related to his alleged involvement in a robbery where he stole money from a man at gunpoint and for his involvement in the death of a dog that occurred as result of a fireworks exploding in the dog's mouth.
