Silver Hawks feel like they let down South Bend losing championship

Posted:

The Silver Hawks celebrated one of their best seasons in over five years, but after losing the Midwest League Championship the team feels like they let down the city.

"A lot of the new [players] said this was a great community and I think they were actually more disappointed that they didn't win it for the community then they were for themselves," said Team President Joe Hart. "I think that says a lot about the community and a lot about the team that they felt like they let down South Bend. I told them they didn't. They were great while they were here and they took it as far as they could and sometimes that happens."

The Silver Hawks went to the Midwest League Championship for the first time in five years. They have not won the title since 2005. They were swept by the Quad Cities River Bandits in the champions, a team that has the 2012 #1 Overall Draft Pick Carlos Correa.

Joe Hart said he told the team to be proud of everything they accomplished and said their trip to the championship was a true underdog story. The Silver Hawks did not have one MLB Top 100 prospect on their playoff roster, while most of the other teams in their league did.

South Bend had some of their best attendance in decades at Coveleski Stadium and is very appreciative of all the support they received during their playoff run.
