Penn Kingsmen defense one of the best at protecting the castle

It is not too surprising that the Penn football team is off to a 4-0 start this year, but it is kind of crazy how well the Kingsmen have protected their castle.

Their castle in this case is the end-zone and the Penn defense has not allowed anyone into that "castle" in over three games.

"I mean that's always a good thing," said Mark Winovich, Penn Senior Linebacker. "That means we're playing our part and we're playing really physical and to not let up a score since our first game I think means we've really come a long way."

The Kingsmen have only been scored on once all season and they are hoping to keep it that way for as long as they can.

"What makes our defense so great is that we all work together," said Adam Mwaniki, Penn Senior Linebacker. "We're not individual players. We all work as one to stop offenses. What we do is practice what we do best which is run stopping and then we just work hard every day at practice."

The last time a team scored against the Kingsmen was in the third quarter of their week one game at Valparaiso. Since then the Kingsmen have not even allowed a field goal.

Penn's head coach Cory Yeoman says there is still room to improve the defense, but he says their effort is what makes them special this year.

"You never know what to expect from year to year," said Yeoman. "But the thing that's impressed me the most about our players so far is that they've played extremely hard."

Penn plays South Bend Clay this Friday.
