The Indiana Court of Appeals has upheld the 50-year sentence for a northern Indiana woman on three counts of neglect for ignoring the abuse of 3 grandchildren, including one who died.
The appeals panel Tuesday rejected the appeal of 53-year-old Dellia Castile of South Bend.
A jury convicted Castile last October in connection with November 2011 death of 10-year-old Tramelle Sturgis and the abuse of his two brothers.
The unanimous opinion written by Judge John Baker noted that Castile "continually placed the boys in a position to be abused by Sturgis despite her knowledge of his brutal conduct" and she thwarted efforts by authorities to determine whether the children were being abused.
