Food 4 Kids program expanding

Thursday morning, the Food Bank of Northern Indiana announced their Food 4 Kids program will be expanding from 25 schools to 33 schools throughout Elkhart, LaPorte, Starke, and St. Joseph Counties.  400 more students will be receiving weekly backpacks filled with food to help kids get food on the weekends, when food may be lacking at home.

The Executive Director for the Food Bank of Northern Indiana, Milt Lee, says it is important to help kids concentrate on being a kid, and not about being hungry.  "When you have a backpack for kids to take home every single weekend," Lee said, "and often times that's the best part of their day, then you know you are making some sort of impact on a kid."

Jordan Automotive Group has been the Food 4 Kids presenting sponsor since 2009.  They presented the Food Bank with a $50,000 check for the program on Thursday.  It cost $140 per student for the school year.
