UPDATE: Emergency Management warns St. Joe residents of flood dangers

With storms moving through the area, St. Joseph County wants residents to be prepared for the worst.

St. Joseph County Emergency Management says residents can pick up sand bags at multiple locations around the county.  Pick up locations are:

  • Southwest Central Fire Territory Station #2 - 54837 Quince Rd., South Bend
  • Southwest Central Fire Territory Station #4 - 19971 Kern Rd., South Bend
  • Clay Fire Territory Station #2 - 18355 Auten Rd., South Bend
  • Clay Fire Territory Station #4 - 13981 SR-23, Granger
  • Penn Township Station #1 - 13960 Jackson Rd., Mishawaka
  • Penn Township Station #2 - 13750 McKinley, Mishawaka
  • South Bend Street Department - 731 S. Lafayette, South Bend
  • Mishawaka Street Department - 500 N. Cedar St., Mishawaka

Additionally, as storms roll through Michiana, some NIPSCO customers lost power.  More than 3000 customers in the GOshen and Walkerton areas lost power for several hours.  NIPSCO says lightning struck a substation in Goshen.  No word on the specific cause of the Walkerton blackout.
