Allegiant says slide inspection could mean delays, cancellations

Posted:

You'll want to double check the schedule if you have a flight on Allegiant over the next few days.

The airline, which operates flights from South Bend Regional Airport, says it has discovered an issue which will require re-inspection of emergency escape slides on its MD80 aircraft.

The company says it will take as many as 30 aircraft out of service for the re-inspection. Allegiant says that could mean delays, rescheduling, or cancellation of a number of flights over the next few days. Allegiant says it will be contacting customers.

"We apologize for the disruption to our passengers and ask that they please remain patient as we work to correct the issue, reschedule affected flights and accommodate any passengers impacted," Allegiant Travel Company President Andrew Levy said in a release. "Allegiant is committed, above all else, to the safety of our passengers and crew, and we are dedicated to working around-the-clock to ensure that all of our fleet meets the highest standards."

As soon as aircraft are inspected, they will be placed back in service. Allegiant expects to complete the inspections on all the aircraft by the end of the month.
