Skylar and Kayla McBride Invited to Team USA Camp

Posted:

Two players with Notre Dame ties have been invited to the US women's basketball national team training camp that will take place the first weekend in October in Las Vegas.  Former ND star Skylar Diggins who now plays in the WNBA with Tulsa was among 33 ladies getting the call along with Fighting Irish Senior Kayla McBride.

Joining the Notre Dame players are 3 time gold medalists Sue Bird, Diana Tauasi and Tamika Catchings.   Also on the list are seven other members of the 2012 London Games that won a fifth-straight gold medal for the U.S. as well as 2008 Olympian Cappie Pondexter.

Diggins wasn't the only WNBA rookie on the list.  WNBA stars Brittney Griner and Elena Delle Donne will be on the court. Griner was part of the 2012 pool but turned down a chance to play in the Olympics to focus on school and her ailing mother.

Joining the veterans and McBride are six other college athletes, including four of U.S. coach Geno Auriemma's own UConn players. Stefanie Dolson, Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis, Bria Hartley and Breanna Stewart.  They are joined by Maryland's Alyssa Thomas, Notre Dame's McBride, and Baylor's Odyssey Sims.
