Alumnus making $27 million dollar gift to Notre Dame

A Notre Dame alumnus is making a big gift to the University.

Matthew Walsh and his wife, Joyce, have made a $27 million dollar donation to the school. Notre Dame will name a new building of the School of Architecture in their honor.

"Matt and Joyce have been tremendous leaders and generous supporters of architecture at Notre Dame, including a gift for the renovation of our new facility in Rome and chairing our advisory council," University President, Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., said in a written statement. "This gift is simply transformative in nature. It will allow the University to take what already is a remarkable architecture school and make it among the very best in the world. We are grateful beyond words."

Notre Dame says the new 60,000-square-foot building will be located east of the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center on the south end of campus. They're still working on a timeline for construction.

Matthew Walsh, who's family business, Walsh Construction, is one of the largest contractors in the nation, is a 1968 graduate of Notre Dame.
