Auto auction in Nebraska drawing buyers from around country

For the first time, the public is getting a look at a collection of classic cars dating back decades.

For collectors, this is a "field of dreams."  They come from every state of the union, and seven foreign countries. Thousands more will bid, on-line.

Here's why.  More than 400 cars and trucks are lined up, door-to-door.  Chevys, Fords and Chryslers from the 50s, 60s and 70s collected by Ray Lambrecht at his Pierce, Nebraska, dealership over 50-years.

Tthey all have to sell. Many buyers won't say what they're willing to spend, but say this collection is important.

"You just don't find these cars like this. Especially the way some of these are," Don Easley of Marion, Ohio said.

Some of the cars could fetch six-figures, a 401K plan, of sorts, for Lambrecht, who's 95-years-old.

He's had health problems, lately, and could use the money to pay some medical bills.

Ray didn't like to sell old cars. So, if he had year-old, unsold models, he'd hang on to them, and put the new cars at the front of the showroom floor.

Going in the dealership, it really was like opening a time capsule, dusty, musty, but full of hidden treasures.

Those cars are no longer hidden and the 500 cars are in a field near Pierce Nebraska and on display for everyone to see.

There are a lot of lookie lous coming to check out the cars but also some serious buyers checking every nook and cranny of the cars they hope to take home.

Some of them are definite jalopies and parts cars but others are real jewels.

After all, they were Ray Lambrecht's babies and now it's time for them to go to good homes.

Yvette VanDerBrink of VanDerBrink Auctions said, "They were his daughters his babies, his cars, it's like marrying off daughters you're glad to see some go but others you aren't. but they are going to good homes. ray was there as we moved them out of the dealership yesterday and it was sad but a happy day for him."

Saturday's the day for Ray's babies to go to good homes.  The gates open bright and early Saturday morning at 6:30 and bidding starts at 9:30.

Check out the behind the scenes photos and share your's from the Pierce Auto Auction on Facebook.
