Fans nervous for Notre Dame's "big test" against Oklahoma

Posted:

Friday night Maury's Pub in Mishawaka was getting fans psyched up for Saturday's Notre Dame-Oklahoma game.  They played the fight song and flashed their blue and gold lights.

At Maury's there's always Notre Dame paraphernalia on the walls and Notre Dame fans in the seats.  Friday night, they were all talking about the game against the Sooners.  "I'm a little nervous.  I root for the Irish but it's gonna be a tough game," said Barry England.

Fans said the outcome of this game will say a lot about the Irish.  Bob Hughes said, "It is a big test for them there's no doubt... If they win this they could possibly end up 11-1."  And John Roelke said, "I think it would be a big test if they're able to beat these guys I think it sets them up well for the rest of the season."

But fans admit, it won't be easy for Notre Dame to pull out a win.  "The Irish are gonna have to play their best game with few turnovers to have the upset.  Oklahoma's favored by three and a half points," said England.

It's almost a case of deja vu.  Oklahoma was the big test for the Irish last year, too.  England said, "Oklahoma has always been a very good team."  Julie Steinbacher said, "Oklahoma's always a really good team and since they're farther away it's something for Notre Dame to beat them."

Despite the nerves fans are still confident Notre Dame can come out on top.  "Oklahoma's a great team but I think Notre Dame can stand up to them and score some points and come out a winner," said Steinbacher.  And Hughes said, "Oklahoma has to remember one thing, God's on our side."
