Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore preparing for possible government shutdown

The Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore is preparing for a possible government shutdown.

Park Ranger Bruce Rowe says if Congress doesn't pass a spending bill by Midnight, the entire Lakeshore will shutdown, Tuesday.

That means, beaches, trails, and campground will all be closed to visitors.

Campers currently on site will have 48 hours to leave.

Rowe says most employees, including himself, will be furloughed.

Emergency staff, including firefighters will continue to work in case of an emergency.

Rowe says the park has had to make preparations for a possible shutdown a few times in the last few years, including at the end of 2012.

Rowe says, while the park is preparing for a shutdown, employees are remaining hopeful Congress will come to a resolution by the deadline and avoid a government shutdown.
