Penn High spellers perfect at Kouts

The have only been about 48 perfect scores in the history of high school Spell Bowl in Indiana and after Monday night's perfect score of 90 at the Kouts Invitational, Penn High School's Spell Bowl squad now owns 35 of those perfect efforts.

The Kingsmen topped a field of 13 schools from central Indiana, northeast Indiana and northwest Indiana while winning their fourth invitational  meet of the season.  Other wins came at East Noble, Winamac and the Penn Invitational.

Here are the final scores of the Kouts Invitational:

6.)  Hanover Central                     49

7.)  Washington Twp.                   48

8.)  Logansport                             45

8.)  Winamac                                45 (Tie)

10.) Benton Central                     34

11.)  Hebron                                 28

12.)  North Judson-San Pierre   25

13.)  LaCrosse                            23

Every one of the 17 Penn spellers, both varsity and junior varsity, turned in perfect scores.  Those spellers are:  Richard Jung, Nitin Arora, Michelle Tapp, Kanika Arora, Peter Jung, Alice Kwak, Max Kirsch, Josh Rajkumar, Chris Yun, Disha Waghray, Presto George, Muqsit Bucch, Hannah McGinness, Yejee Oh, Faihaan Arif, Nikita Kumar and Emily Vetne.  The Penn coach is Pete DeKever

Next up for the Penn spellers is the John Glenn regional on October 14.
