Group gets educated on Affordable Care Act


Lots of people have questions about the Affordable Care Act and how it impacts their health coverage. Many are turning to the professionals for information.

River Bend Cancer Services partnered with Michiana Hematology Oncology on Thursday to lead a discussion on the Affordable Care Act and the basics everyone should know.

For anyone uninsured, Sondra Gardetto, manager for Health Insurance Services at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center says you need to enroll by December 15 if you want coverage to take affect January 1, 2014. The latest time for enrollment is March 31 and Gardetto says there will be penalties if you do not get insured.

"It is definitely a changing time in the health care industry and we want to make sure we're a viable resource in the community," said Gardetto. "We want people to have health insurance because in the long run it's going to help them become a better, healthy person."
