SBPD to start monitoring nuisance calls Tuesday

South Bend's Chronic Nuisance Properties Ordinance takes effect Tuesday.

This means properties with 50 or fewer units are only allowed 5 nuisance calls every 60 days. Properties with 50 or more units get 12 calls in 90 days. It's an effort to cut down on police response to the same locations and officers say they are ready for the ordinance to kick in.

"Hopefully get these properties to be more accountable for the different problems that they have so we don't keep responding there over and over again," says Keenan Lane, Nuisance Abatement Officer.

If a property goes over the allotted number of calls, that property can get fined $250 per call. Those calls will start being tracked Tuesday.
