Kingsmen know it will take hard work to win the crown at tennis state championship

After earning a trip to the Indiana High School State Tennis Championships this past Saturday, the Penn Kingsmen know their journey to winning the crown isn't over.

"Just got to keep playing hard," said Aidan Koch, Penn senior doubles player. "I mean obviously, top eight teams in the state and we're one of them, but everybody down there is coming to play. They're all really good teams, so we got to play our hardest."

Penn's first match of the championship round will come against the Carmel Greyhounds. Despite having a few remaining players from last year's team, this year's squad says the great year they have had is a result of a great team work ethic.

"It was more of a rebuilding year this year, so I wasn't sure how well we would do," said Sean Anderson, Penn senior doubles player. "But we really proved it to ourselves that we could do it."

Because the Kingsmen have put in so much effort this year, their coach says his job has been pretty easy.

"As far as my part, I really shouldn't have to challenge them a whole lot," said Eric Bowers, Penn Head Coach, "I mean this is exciting. We've only done this three other times in Penn history. We're going to state and we're going to have four days of really good practice and we'll be ready to play Friday."

The elite eight round of the tennis state championships starts Friday afternoon down in Indianapolis.
