Warsaw Tigers hope to claw their way back to soccer state title game

One goal was the difference between the Warsaw Tigers becoming state champions last year in boys soccer, and losing that game has motivated them this season.

"We work hard every practice," said Miguel Rivera, Warsaw senior. "It takes hard work you know to win these [playoff] games."

The 1-0 loss to Columbus North in last year's 2A State Championship is still a sore spot for the players who watched the Bull Dogs celebrate. This year the Tigers want to be the team hoisting the state trophy.

Before they can get back to state though, the Tigers know there is still plenty of work to be done. The next priority for Warsaw will be getting through regionals, which starts with a match-up against the St. Joseph Indians Thursday.

"We need to come out hard every single time, every game," said Alex Climaco, Warsaw senior. "Just play our hardest."

The Tigers head coach says his team has shown the motivation to stay in the tournament.

"I just enjoy the opportunity to coach them," said Scott Bauer, Warsaw Head Coach. "They are very coachable and they like each other and they want this season to go on."

The game against St. Joe starts Thursday night at 7:00PM in the Mishawaka regional.
