Volunteers help clean up Benton Harbor

Several volunteers spent their day beautifying Benton Harbor.

People from Chemical Bank and several other businesses donated their time to cleaning up the city.

The president of the downtown development authority, Bryan Tutton, says it all started by getting the city clean for events like the PGA tour and Blossom parade.

But in order to get more people downtown year round, the city needs to be clean all the time.

Tutton says, "It's a good plan over the long term, but we also have to say, what can we do short-term? We thought we'll bring in some volunteers and start cleaning now."

On Monday, volunteers worked to mow, weed, and pick up trash on Riverview drive, all the way down main street.

Over the past few days, people have been also helping to clean up the Arts District.
