Berrien Co. Kennel Club makes donation to Sheriff's Department

The Berrien County Sheriff's Department will soon be welcoming a new officer... all thanks to some help from the kennel club.

The Berrien County Kennel Club made a $10,000 donation to the department to be used for a new K9 officer.

The department recently had a K9 who retired, so a new one will be starting at the beginning of next year. Sheriff Paul Bailey stressed the importance of this donation and having K9 officers in the community.

Bailey says, "We use them on a regular basis with our narcotic unit, but if somebody is lost or we're trying to track somebody down, our dogs are on call 24/7."

The Kennel Club decided to make a donation to the Sheriff's department after an officer made a presentation at a meeting. The vice president of the club said it was a unanimous decision to make the donation.
