Tips for protecting your home against an invasion

There has been news of several home invasions in the Michiana area over the last few weeks. While some are very targeted, police say others seem to be random.

In St. Joseph County, Lieutenant Matt Blank says they are seeing most of their incidences involve the elderly. "When that segment of the population is impacted it really strikes a nerve, not only with law enforcement but with the community and justifiably so. These people are elderly and for whatever reason, this person is choosing to prey upon them.

He says it's important to lock your doors and windows. Keep an eye on elderly neighbors and call police immediately if you see any suspicious activity in your neighborhood. He says there is no reason to be concerned, but never hesitate to pick up the phone and let authorities know if something makes you leery.
