UPDATE: Suspect identified in deadly shooting near Notre Dame

Posted:

The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's office has identified a suspect in Wednesday night's shooting on the 18000 block of Warrick St. in South Bend.

Police were called around 10:15 p.m. Police say when they got to the scene they found one suspect dead and the homeowner critically injured. He was taken to a local hospital.  A second suspect ran from the scene but showed up at the hospital with gunshot wounds.

Authorities say they second suspect arrived at an area hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.  The man, identified by police as Mario McGrew, was taken into custody.

Police say it appears the suspects and the homeowner knew each other and police do not believe it was a random act.

Notre Dame student, Chan Hyup Park says even though multiple shootings have happened near campus, he isn't scared to walk around.  "Within this area, I don't feel uncomfortable there are a lot of people walking around," Park said, "there are police cars driving around to see if anything is happening."

Formal charges have not been made against McGrew yet.  Metro Homicide is conferring with police now and a decision is expected soon.

FOX28 is working to get more details on the investigation and will  bring you updates as they become available on air and on FOX28.com
