Students in Niles get pink

Posted:

Students at Niles High School are doing all they can to fight breast cancer.  On Friday they held a "pink out."

"The cheerleaders are gonna wear pink, the band is gonna wear pink," says Guadalupe Fernandez a senior.

Teachers say the cause hits close to home.

"We actually have Mrs. Porter, our assistant principal's wife right now is fighting breast cancer so it really hits home for us, previously our choir accompaniment had it and fought it so we supported her too," says Karissa Young a teacher.

The money raised will go towards helping to pay for mammogram's and more.

"It's going to go to a couple individuals to help them with gas cards to drive back and forth to chemo," says Young.

Each year the cause gains momentum.

"There are so many people and everyone is affected by it, they either have a family member or a neighbor or a friend fighting this horrible disease," says Young.
