Group marches against drugs and violence in South Bend

A large group of children took to the streets on Friday to march against drugs and violence in South Bend.  It was the 25th anniversary of the Red Ribbon March.  This year's theme is "Life Begins with Me: I Choose to be Drug Free".

The march was led by hundreds of area youth beginning at the Colfax Cultural Center, traveling along Lincolnway West towards Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and ended at the Salvation Army Kroc Center.  A program of arts, entertainment and commitment took place after the march.

Honorary Chairman, Dr Mark Green said it is inspirational to be walking with the group of youth.  "It is just wonderful to be involved in an organization like this," Green said, "and to see the children taking advantage of it."

The Red Ribbon Campaign began more than two decades ago after the death of a DEA agent, Enrique "Kiki" Camarena.
