Students pack food to send to Haiti

Posted:

Students from Christ Lutheran School in Stevensville Michigan, spent Tuesday morning packing meals to send to an orphanage in Haiti.  Kindergarten through eighth grade students have been raising money for the charity Kids Around the World which provides kids in third world countries with meals, builds playgrounds, and performs Christian missionary work.

Food Program Director for Kids Around the World, Andrew Martin says it only costs 25 cents to feed a child a nutritious meal of rice, soy, vitamin, and vegetables.  This meal is designed to take a child from stage four malnutrition to full health.  He said he was excited to work with such an eager group of students wanting to help.  "They kind of caught fire, this whole school did," Martin said, "when they realized that twenty five cents, the change in their pockets, the change on their dresser could really change a child's life."

The school raised just over five thousand dollars, which equals twenty thousand meals provided to the orphanage.  The orphanage houses three thousand children.
