Teen charged with attacking girlfriend's parents

An 18-year-old man was arraigned Thursday on Battery and Auto Theft charges after police say he attacked his girlfriend's mother and stepfather.

James Patterson and Trudy Payton were attacked with a shovel early Monday morning inside their home in the 600 block of South Kenmore Street in South Bend.  Patterson told police the man that attacked them looked like his stepdaughter's boyfriend, and that he could see a girl with a bandana covering her face who he identified as his stepdaughter.

Payton told police she did not approve of her daughter's boyfriend, and during an argument, her daughter had threatened to "kill them."  Because Payton's daughter is under 18, authorities have not identified her.

Police were able to find and arrest Daron Breveard and Payton's daughter.  Breveard is charged with two counts of Battery with Deadly Weapon and one count of Auto Theft.  A van had been taken from the garage of the home following the attack.

Breveard is currently being held on $100,000 bond.
