Mishawaka school district gets grant from state

While some in the School City of Mishawaka were disappointed that the referendum did not pass, the district did get SOME good news Wednesday.

Indiana's Attorney General Greg Zoeller visited Mishawaka to present a $25,000 grant from the state.

The money will help with security updates, including a school resource officer.

Zoeller says, "It's not just a gun at the door. The real value of a school resource officer is like a community policeman inside of a unique community. "

Mishawaka police say the grant will help the schools and the Police Department continue to address violence and safety concerns.

While it's a nice start, school leaders say it doesn't completely make up for the money they were seeking in the referendum to deal specifically with security.
