An officer with the South Bend Police Department is under investigation after he allegedly hit a child while working at his part time job as a school bus driver.

Sgt. Wayne Boocher is a part-time school bus driver for Union-North United School Corporation.  The student told school officials on October 24 that he had been slapped shortly before being let off the bus in the parking lot of LaVille Elementary School that day.

The school reported the incident to the Indiana Department of Child Services who sent it to the Indiana State Police.

The Indiana State Police are currently investigating the accusations. During the investigation, South Bend Police say Boocher has been placed in an administrative desk job.
