UPDATE: Man killed in Elkhart officer-involved shooting identified

Elkhart police have released the name of the man killed during an officer-involved shooting from Sunday.

Dispatchers tell us it started around 8:00pm with a chase near the corner of Bristol and Cassopolis Streets. State Police say Elkhart officers were trying to pull over a stolen, blue and gray 1995 Chevy truck for a traffic violation. The chase went into Michigan before returning to Elkhart.

Indiana state police say James Ryckeart of Elkhart was attempting to back the truck into the path of officers when police opened fire.  Three officers were involved in the shooting, but their identities have not yet been released.  No officers were injured during the incident.

Elkhart police have turned the investigation over to Indiana State Police.
