Elkhart senior women remember helping during Wars on Veterans Day

Before women were allowed to enlist in the armed forces, many did their part by taking over jobs the drafted men had to leave.

Asilia Hoagland is one of those women we met on Veteran's Day that did just that. When she was 18-years old, she took over the jobs men had in the factories making parts for ammunition.

Hoagland says, "I never did any fighting or anything like that, or I never had to go to a war. It was just doing at home what they wanted me to do."

It was because of the women's work force that characters like Rosie the Riveter came about. By the end of World War two, over 2 million women were working to aid in the war effort.
