The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unithas released the name of the man killed in a South Bend shooting late Wednesday night.

Metro Homicide has taken over the investigation into the shooting that killed 32-year-old Julio Santos. It happened around 11:22 Wednesday night inside a car on the 300 block of North Sunnyside Avenue. Neighbors called police after hearing gun shots.

When officers arrived, they found Santos had died from multiple gunshot wounds. His silver Ford Taurus with paper license plates was still running.

Officers were able to talk to a few neighbors on the scene Wednesday night, but Metro Homicide Assistant Commander Lt. David Wells told FOX28 there's still a lot of work to do.

"It's obviously very cold out here. There's not a lot of people out tonight. Everyone's indoors," he said. "We're going to continue canvassing the neighborhood. Come daylight we'll be out here again, obviously, and we're asking if anybody in the immediate area heard anything or saw anything strange."

If you know anything about the crime, call Crime Stoppers at 288-STOP or the Metro Homicide Unit at 235-5009.
