All clear given at Ball State after reports of possible armed person on campus

Posted:

Ball State University has given the all clear after earlier reports of a possible armed person on campus. According to the school's website, campus is secure and students can resume their normal activities.

Around 4:30 p.m. Friday afternoon, the University sent this message via its alert system:
"BSU Alert: Possible armed assailant in the area of rec and wellness. Avoid HP, Lewellen, Rec Center, HP, and Arena. Follow safety direction from UPD on site."

According to the campus alert Twitter feed, Ball State says someone in the Rec Center shouted there was a gun. Ball State University Police were called in to assess the situation. The Human Performance Lab, Lewellen Pool and Worthen Arena are all connected to the Rec Center.

The university says any media reports of a hostage situation are inaccurate, but asked people to remain in a safe location and avoid the area.
