Shooting at Washington Gardens Apartments in Elkhart

Posted:

Elkhart Police are on the scene of a shooting.

Police on scene tell FOX28's Melanie Yuill that they were called to the 300 block of Garfield for shots fired. Police say they located a firearm in the alley and then were flagged down and told there was a victim at Washington Gardens Apartment Complex. The apartments are about a block away from Garfield on West Indiana.

Police say they found a male victim in the parking lot of the apartment complex. Police can't say exactly what the victim's injuries are, but they believe he was shot in the leg. The victim was taken to a local hospital and his condition is unknown at this time.

Police say they cannot comment on any suspects right now. Part of the apartment complex is blocked off with police tape. There are evidence markers in the parking lot, along with what police say is the victim's jacket.

Police say that people who live in Washington Gardens Apartments and the surrounding area can get in and out through their back doors. Police say that no one who lives in the apartment complex say they saw anything.

We have a crew on the scene and will bring you updates when they becomes available.
