Father of Carmel football player dies after medical event at Friday's game

Heart-breaking news out of Carmel.

The father of a Carmel running back passed away during Friday night's game against Penn.

We're told Shakir Paschall's father, Eric Paschall, had some sort of medical incident during the third quarter. He was taken to the hospital where he died.

Paschall scored the game-clinching touchdown for Carmel against Penn.

Number 5 ran for 121 yards on 22 carries.

Carmel Athletics tweeted today, "Thoughts and Prayers to our Greyhound football family. A time to rally around each other."

Assistant Coach Jeremy Stacy expressed his condolences on Facebook saying, "Mr. Reaper claimed a very young father, doing what he loved to do: Watch his son rush for over 100 yards in route to a state birth. Please pray for my players, coaches, and parents as we try and sort out the roller coaster of emotions we all went through last night."

Also during the game, a referee collapsed and needed CPR. We're told he's doing better, Saturday.
