Diggins enters ND Ring of Honor as Irish beat Valpo

From her days of leading the Washington Panthers to the State Championship to her glory days at Notre Dame, it's no wonder that Skylar Diggins is nicknamed the hometown hero.

Saturday afternoon, Skylar's countless heroics, were rewarded with one of the biggest accolades of all. Just before tip-off at Notre Dame women's game she was inducted into the Irish Basketball Ring of Honor.

Fans cheered loudly as the banner with her number four was unveiled, symbolizing her four great years at the school. It's a moment she had been working on her whole life.

"You dream about stuff like this happening. It's not a goal ultimately. You kind of just play the game to win and be competitive," said Diggins. "Just represent Notre Dame the best I could and South Bend and my family. The experiences that I had here were so special and the memories that were made here, with what we were able to accomplish, it's so special. This doesn't just represent myself, but also my family, my teammates, and of course those that paved the way before me."

Diggins stuck around for the game to see her former team play Valparaiso. The Irish started off shaky, but midway through the first half pulled away and eventually beat Valpo 96-46.

Notre Dame was lead in scoring by sophomore shooting guard Jewel Loyd's 22 points. Skylar's replacement at point guard, Lindsay Allen, chipped in 15 points in the Notre Dame win.

The Irish have a week off before they head to Penn.
