Local businesses helping people without power

Posted:

Thousands of people are still in the dark, but some Michiana businesses are trying to offer a bright spot after the storm.

Waterford Estates Lodge on 933 in South Bend is running a special called "No Power, No Problem," where people can stay the night there and have breakfast for $59 per day.

General Manager Thomas Snell says that's about a 30 percent discount, for folks who don't have electricity.

"The weather, we have no control over. People should be able to have a hot shower," says Snell.

Snell says there have been quite a few people booking a room because they don't have power and this is just one way to give back.

"I think it's very important, like I said, we're a local business, we take care of our own," says Snell.

He says the offer lasts until power is fully restored. To book a room, call 574-272-5220.

Kerri's Avenue Salon in Granger is offering a free shampoo, condition and a blow dry to people who don't have power.

"There is nothing worse than a bad hair day," says salon owner Kerri Spencer.

Spencer says she's been there and wants to do whatever she can to help provide some sense of normalcy.

"I have not had electricity before and thought about, I have a special event tonight and I would have to go to the special event without my hair being done if I didn't have electricity. So I got to thinking about other people in that same situation," says Spencer.

So far, Kerri's Avenue Salon hasn't had anyone come in for a free shampoo, but says folks can either come in or call ahead at 574-243-3901.
