Local police officers increase patrols for the holiday season

Area police officers from St. Joseph, Elkhart, LaPorte, and Marshall Counties, and the Indiana State Police are increasing patrols for the holiday season.  They are encouraging drivers to be safe by wearing their seat belts, having their children properly restrained, avoid texting and driving, and most importantly, not get behind the wheel of a car if you have been drinking.

Elkhart County Patrol Officer, Travis Adamson says you should have a plan before you begin any holiday celebration.  "Make the decision before they start celebrating," Adamson said, "if they are drinking alcoholic beverages, make sure you don't get behind the wheel and make sure you have someone that can drive you ahead of time, or prepare for a cab."

Increased patrols will continue until December 1.  Police also ask, if you see someone driving who appears to be impaired, call police and give them a location, description of the car, and direction of travel.
