UPDATE: One killed in buggy crash near Goshen

Police have identified a person killed when a horse-drawn buggy was hit by a van Monday night.

The accident happened around 5:30 p.m. on State Road 119 about 4 miles west of Goshen.

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department says the buggy was heading east when it was rear-ended by the van. The driver of the buggy, 51-year-old Ammon Imhoff of Goshen, was thrown from the vehicle. Imhoff was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries.

The driver of the van was transported to a Goshen hospital with complaints of chest pain.

It's unclear at this point whether the buggy accident was caused by poor weather conditions, however our crew that responded to the scene reports the roads were very slippery.

Dispatchers tell us a medical helicopter was called in, but the chopper had to turn back because of bad weather.
