Home fires increase during winter

Did you know that winter is the peak season for home fires?

Fire officials say there are things you can do to prevent them.  One way is to limit the amount of candles that you use and always make sure you have the proper holder.

Another way is to always keep a lid close by when you are cooking on the stove in the event of a grease fire.

"People this time of year are wanting to use deep fryers for their turkeys, remember that those go outside, no matter how cold it is, or how snowy it is those belong outside well away from your house," says Dave Cherrone of Clay Fire.

Also, you should have a smoke alarm for every level of your home.
