Make a Thanksgiving pizza with your leftovers

Posted:

By the time Thanksgiving dinner is over, you'll no doubt have a plate of leftover turkey and an uneaten bowl of stuffing. Don't throw them out, save them! Why? Your leftovers can be turned into something unique and tasty!

With the simple ingredients of gravy, mozzarella cheese, stuffing, turkey, and cheddar cheese, you can create a Thanksgiving pizza masterpiece, thanks to Pizza Transit in Niles, Michigan.

Pizza Transit has been around for 26 years in Niles. Brittin says she took the business over from her father after he started it in 1987. The pizza place says they're known for their "pizza of the month"

For the month of November, they put a new twist on the pie. Owner Sarah Brittin thought of the Thanksgiving pizza last year, and she says it received quite a following. But by word of mouth, the pizza hit it big this year.  Brittin tells us for the past 4 days orders have been coming in left and right.

"We kind of try to test out anything you can smear onto a crust as a sauce to do our pizza of the month. So anything we can come up with. Thanksgiving is kind of the famous meal of having one bite of everything all together," Brittin says. "It's pretty much just Thanksgiving on a crust, and it really works well together. We're always in the back kitchen tinkering with what could be the next pizza of the month, so it came pretty easy for us."

Brittin tells FOX28 that this year, her inventory nearly quadrupled because of the high demand. And she's had orders come as far as Goshen. She said one customer even ordered one of the pies for tomorrow!

Pizza Transit says all their ingredients can be found from your leftover Thanksgiving dinner.

  • Gravy
  • Mozzarella Cheese
  • Left over turkey
  • Stuffing
  • Cheddar Cheese.

Now unfortunately, Pizza Transit will be closed for Thanksgiving, but they will be open for Black Friday. The Thanksgiving pizza will be available until December when their next pizza of the month rolls out.
