Police on the lookout for drunk drivers on Thanksgiving Eve

Posted:

The night before Thanksgiving isn't just a busy night of preparing for Thursday's feast.

Police say it's also one of the biggest drinking nights of the year.

Weather permitting, there will be a DUI checkpoint on South Bend's northeast side from 10pm-2am.

Lieutenant Williams says if the checkpoint is canceled, there will be plenty of patrols looking for drunk drivers.

Williams says he's not sure if the winter weather will result in fewer people going out Wednesday night, he just wants everyone to be safe.

"We don't want to see anyone get in a crash. We don't want to see anyone get arrested. And especially, we don't want that fatal crash occurring so close to the holidays," says Williams.

Williams says it's much cheaper to call a cab, than to pay for all the costs that come with a DUI.
