Food Bank receives large chicken donation

The Food Bank of Northern Indiana received a large donation of chicken Wednesday morning.  A local company, Miller Poultry, donated 13,800 pounds of chicken, everything from legs and thighs to chicken sausages.

Len Neeb, Sales Team Leader for Miller Poultry, says this is an annual donation they like to make this time of the year.  "It seems to be a good time of year because it gets us in the holiday spirit," Neeb said. "It's also a high demand, especially for proteins."

The Food Bank of Northern Indiana will distribute the chicken throughout 6 counties, providing over 40,000 meals.

Executive Director Milt Lee says this donation helps fill a need they community is unable to do on their own.  "As good as our community is to us in terms of making incredible donations and contributions all year long, they can't donate chicken," said Lee. "Those are the types of items that we need to get our clients so they have a nutritious meal every single time they sit down at the dinner table."
