Mishawaka man arrested on drug charges in Miami County

A Mishawaka man was arrested by Indiana State Police on drug charges following a traffic stop on US 31 in Miami County Monday afternoon.

State Police say Miami County dispatchers had received called reporting a vehicle speeding and swerving from lane to lane. A Trooper pulled the vehicle over after it drove off the road.

During the stop, the Trooper says he noticed indications of criminal activity and used his narcotics detecting K9 to sniff around the vehicle. Police say the K9 gave a positive alert to the odor of illegal narcotics.

Police searched the vehicle and say they found marijuana, heroin, prescription pills, a hypodermic needle and other drug paraphernalia.

The driver of the vehicle, 30-year-old Jesse J. Perkins of Mishawaka, was arrested. He's facing felony charges for possession of heroin, possession of a schedule II narcotic, and possession of a hypodermic needle and a misdemeanor charges for possession of marijuana under 30 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia. Perkins is being held at the Miami County Jail
