The Berrien County Sheriff's Department has released the name of a suspected drug dealer who hit an officer with a vehicle, then led police on a chase to a South Bend apartment complex.

Police say the suspect is 28-year-old Ryan Jamal Earl of South Bend.

A warrant has been issued for Earl on several counts including Dealing Cocaine, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Fleeing.

Police describe Earl as a black man, about 5'10." His last known address is at an apartment on Northside Boulevard in South Bend.

The Berrien County Sheriff's Department says Earl has never been held at the Berrien County Jail, so no picture was available. St. Joseph County Police do say a Ryan Earl with the same address has been held at least twice at the St. Joseph County Jail. In March of this year, Earl was held on a charge of driving with a suspended license. Earl was also held at the jail in May of 2011 for charges of maintaining a common nuisance and resisting law enforcement.

Anyone with information about Earl is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-342-STOP (7867).

Police say Sgt. Trent Babcock was the injured officer. Sgt. Babcock was treated and released from Memorial Hospital for an injury to his left knee. He is an 11 year veteran of the Berrien County Sheriff's Office.
