Public expresses concerns about abandoned homes in South Bend

A public forum was held Wednesday in South Bend for people to come out and voice their concerns about vacant and abandoned homes in the community.

It's the fourth of several forums being held across the state of Indiana.

The group wants to use money from the federal government to tear down some vacant and abandoned homes.

Republican State Senator Jim Merritt has been working on the issue for the past 20 years.

He says he wants to see less crime and less blight across the state.

"I really believe a vacant home, an abandoned home is a poison to the culture of neighborhoods," says Merritt.

If you didn't make it to the meeting tonight, you can email your concerns to the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority by the end of the month.

Email by December 31st.
