Students get up-close with zoo animals

A snake, a marsupial and a bunch of kindergartners.

That was what you could find at Stanley Clark Elementary in South Bend Thursday morning. It was part of the Potawatomi Zoo's Zoo-To-You program that teaches students about animals with a hands-on approach.

Teachers and students say the response has been great and full of new discoveries.

"The snake, they thought, was maybe slippery or slimy. But, it was actually very smooth and a lot of the children are very shocked by that," says Jenni O'Connor, a Stanley Clark teacher.

Students also brought in donations for the zoo as part of their service learning program.
