A semi driver from Illinois is recovering at a Fort Wayne hospital after he crashed into a home Thursday near Akron in Fulton County.

Indiana State Police say it happened around 2:20 p.m. in the 1300 block of East State Road 114. Troopers say the driver was eastbound on State Road 114 pulling an empty tanker trailer when, for an unknown reason, he went off the road. The semi hit the house, which sits about 50 feet from the road.

The home's garage, kitchen and bathroom were destroyed in the crash. Fortunately, no one was home at the time.

The crash did trap the driver, 56-year-old David Bolt of Cabery, IL, in the truck. He was pulled out by firefighters from Henry Township and Rochester.

Bolt was flown to a Fort Wayne hospital. Police say he suffered broken ribs, lacerations and a head injury. Troopers say he was wearing a seatbelt, which likely prevented him from being more severely injured.

Troopers are still investigating the crash, but say alcohol or drugs are not suspected. Troopers did check the semi and trailer and found they had their required paperwork and no violations.
