Local girl who inspired 'Sarah Strong' movement loses battle with cancer

15-year-old Sarah Crane has lost her battle with colon cancer.  A family friend confirmed to FOX28 the Elkhart teen passed away Saturday.

Crane was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer earlier this year.  She was one of the youngest people to ever have the disease.

Crane inspired people here in Michiana and across the country.  The 'Sarah Strong' movement started all to support Crane in her fight against cancer.  People from across the area did what they could to support Crane and her family by selling everything from ribbons to T-shirts.  There were Sarah Strong motorcycle rides, cookouts, car washes, and much more.

Crane was a student at Elkhart Memorial High School and Saturday Elkhart Memorial High School Athletics tweeted, "On behalf of Memorial Athletics we send our thoughts and prayers to the Crane family. #sarahstrong represents hope and strength for all!"

Several others took to Twitter Saturday to show their support.  Jordan Rene said, "God gained another beautiful angel today. Rest in peace, loved by many. Hated by none. Gone but never forgotten."  Kyrstal Vivan said, "Today is a sad day. The #SARAHSTRONG community around the world is mourning the loss of an inspirational girl. RIP Sarah Crane."
