Salvation Army in Niles makes plea for Christmas help

Posted:

The Salvation Army in Niles is hoping you'll help them out this Christmas.

Starting next week, they'll start distributing Christmas assistance to more than 300 families, including about 700 kids. So far, donations have been slow to come in. Right now, they only have four large boxes of toys.

"We'd like to have a little faith that God's going to multiple and bless and move on people's hearts, but we are getting close," said Major Tracy Walters "So, we'd like to just remind people that the need is still there and things are coming in slowly, and it is here before we know it.  "

They're not sure exactly what is causing the shortfall, but having fewer days Thanksgiving and Christmas this year may be part of the problem.

If you'd like to help, the Salvation Army is asking for new and unwrapped children's toys for ages 0 – 16 years, new children's clothing articles in various sizes and non-perishable food items. Financial donations are also welcome.

Donations can be dropped at their facility in Niles at 424 North 15th Street. You can also call 269-684-2660 for more information on how to help.
