Doctors: It's not too late to get your flu shot

This week is National Influenza week, and doctors tell us if you haven't gotten your flu shot, there's still time.

Seventy-two Hoosiers died last year from complications of the flu.  Right now, Indiana ranks the 13th worst state for the number of vaccinations.

South Bend doctors say the flu shot is safe, effective, and the best prevention to stay healthy this winter.  "Twenty percent of kids under five who contract influenza will end up develop pneumonia. So it can make kids quite ill," says Dr. Greg Davis.

Doctors say the best prevention methods this winter are to get the flu shot and wash your hands regularly.  You can also help keep others healthy by covering your coughs and sneezes,   and staying home if you're sick.

If you have not gotten your flu vaccine yet, they are available at both St. Joseph County Health Department clinics for $25.  You can use cash, credit card (MasterCard or Visa), or Medicare Part B.
